Institute of Veterinary Physiology

Welcome to the Institute of Veterinary Physiology

About the Institute

The Institute of Veterinary Physiology is committed to scientific education of their students by teaching them the principles of physiology as well as the newest scientific discoveries.

Accordingly, our institute contributes to a large extent to the education of veterinary students within the 5 year Vetsuisse curriculum. The main emphasis in research is to understand the response to hypoxia and to focus on erythropoietin and its protective effects as well as the mechanisms that control the ingestion of food; another focus is diabetes mellitus in cats.

The director of the institute is Prof. Max Gassmann, deputy is Prof. Thomas Lutz.

Our institute together with the Institute of Animal Nutrition forms the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Animal Nutrition of the Vetsuisse Faculty University of Zurich.
